A LITTLE ORDER, A BETTER READ
Convert TXT to EPUB with Chapters
Turn a plain-text novel into an EPUB with a linked table of contents. Detect chapter headings, review the results, and edit titles before exporting. Your file stays on your device.
How to convert TXT to EPUB
- Choose a TXT file, or try the example.
- Review the detected chapters and preview the text. If needed, adjust the detection method and detect again.
- Edit chapter titles, enter the book details, and export your EPUB.
Detecting again resets chapter-title edits. Review the chapter list before exporting.
Supported chapter headings
Automatic detection supports standalone, unindented Chapter headings with Arabic or Roman numerals, plus Prologue and Epilogue. Titles may follow a hyphen or colon. English keywords and Roman numerals are case-insensitive.

Your files stay on your device
Chapter detection and conversion run in your browser. Your novel and chapter edits are not uploaded to a server. No account is required. Refreshing or closing the page clears the current workspace, so download your export before leaving.
- Input: one TXT file.
- Output: EPUB or UTF-8 TXT.
- File limit: 100 MB; practical capacity depends on device memory.
- Preview: up to 20,000 characters per chapter; exports include the complete chapter body.
Chapter One, bare numbers, and title-only headings are not detected automatically unless marked as Markdown headings or matched by a custom rule.
- English skipped-number and duplicate-number checks are not available.
- Chapter detection cannot determine whether story content is missing from the source.
Frequently asked questions
Is this TXT to EPUB converter free?
The current version is free to use. No payment or registration is required.
Will my novel be uploaded?
No. Chapter detection and conversion run locally in your browser. Your novel content is not uploaded to a server.
Why is my TXT file detected as one chapter?
Your file may not contain headings that match the supported formats. If no headings match, all text is preserved as Full text. Check the headings in your source, or try Markdown headings or a custom regex.
Can I edit the table of contents before exporting?
You can review the chapter list and edit chapter titles before exporting. Manual merging, splitting, and drag-and-drop reordering are not currently available.
Can I upload an existing EPUB to repair its contents?
No. Chapter Studio currently accepts TXT files only. Importing or repairing an existing EPUB is not supported.
